IELTS model essay topic Privacy Sample 1:
Question:
Some people think that governments should not intrude into private lives of their citizens. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Answer:
I agree that governments should not intrude into private lives of their citizens to a great extent. As citizens of a country, we are guaranteed certain rights of privacy and freedom. Each citizen must have freedom of choice and the right to decisions such as who to marry, what occupation to have, and how to spend their personal time. These choices and decisions should remain within the scope of the individual, and not be subject to governmental control.
By the same token, though, I recognize that some government regulation may be necessary in cases when citizens may be at risk of harm or when there is a need to maintain public order and safety. For instance, laws against drug trafficking or sexual harassment are in place to protect the public’s welfare, and therefore, should be enforced. However, when it comes to day-to-day activities, individuals should be allowed to make decisions and act according to their own preferences, with minimal government intrusion.
In conclusion, governments should not have the right to intrude into the private lives of citizens, except in cases of harm or public order violations where intervention may be necessary. On an individual basis, it is important to respect a person’s right to privacy and autonomy.

Question: In the modern age, is it possible for people to fully protect their privacy?
Answer: In the digital age, it can be difficult for people to fully protect their privacy due to the ubiquitous presence of technology in our lives. With the rise of social media, people have become increasingly reluctant to share personal information, from email addresses to photographs. As such, it is essential for people to become more aware of steps they can take to better protect their privacy, such as regularly reviewing the privacy settings on their accounts, using secure passwords for online accounts, and being careful about the type of information they post online. Additionally, people should be aware of their government’s laws and regulations regarding data protection and privacy, as the level of laws and enforcement can be varied across countries. By taking the necessary precautions to protect their privacy, people can better safeguard their data and minimize their risk of data breaches and cyber-attacks.

Topic:
With the increasing use of technology, many people are now exposed to their personal data being shared in the public domain.
Question:
Do you think privacy is still a right for people to have, in the digital age?
Answer: Yes, I believe that privacy remains a right for people to have in the digital age. On the one hand, advances in technology have enabled digital data to be collected, stored, and shared in unprecedented ways, allowing individuals to benefit from the convenience and accessibility of modern technology. On the other hand, this can also lead to a lack of privacy and a potential for misuse of data. It is important that individuals have the right to protect their personal data and know who has access to it. To ensure this, governments need to develop and enforce laws that protect the privacy of individuals. Companies should also be held responsible for protecting the data they collect, and individuals should be given control over their data and the right to delete or modify it if they wish. Overall, privacy is still a right that should be protected in the digital age.
