IELTS model essay topic The end of fossil fuels Sample 1:

Question:
In many countries, fossil fuels are no longer being used as the main sources of energy. What are the causes and what are the possible solutions?

Answer:
The main cause of the decline in the use of fossil fuels as the main source of energy is largely due to advancements in renewable energy technology, as well as the commercial viability of alternative energy sources like solar, wind and hydro. Additionally, increasing concern over the detrimental environmental effects of using fossil fuels, such as air pollution, has caused some governments to introduce regulations that significantly limit their use.

Possible solutions to this decline include encouraging energy conservation, investing in research and development of renewable energy sources, and incentivizing citizens to switch to more environmentally friendly options. In addition, governments could introduce legislation to lower the cost of renewable energy sources, or grants and other incentives to help cover the start-up or operational costs. Through the implementation of these solutions, nations can reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and move closer to a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.

Question:
What do you think will happen when fossil fuels are no longer the primary energy source?

Answer:
When fossil fuels are no longer the primary energy source, renewable energy sources such as solar, hydro, geothermal, and wind power are expected to become dominant. This shift will have a tremendous impact on our world and on global climate. With fossil fuels no longer polluting the atmosphere with dangerous levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, the environment will begin to recover and extract itself from the issues caused by climate change. This will lead to cleaner air and water, and a healthier planet. Additionally, a shift away from fossil fuels could also bring an end to wars and conflicts related to them, as the political importance of fossil fuels in the world is reduced. Finally, transitioning to a renewable energy model will create new jobs in the sustainable energy sector and provide new investment opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs. All of these factors lead to an optimistic outlook for the world when fossil fuels are no longer the primary energy source.

Question

Some people think that the end of fossil fuels is inevitable and desirable. Do you agree or disagree?

Answer

I disagree with the idea that the end of fossil fuels is inevitable and desirable. While there is no denying that the destruction of the environment has accelerated due to man-made activities that make use of fossil fuels, I feel that transitioning away from them must be done in a gradual and well-thought-out manner.

Making a sudden move away from fossil fuels could be detrimental to the economy and cost many people their livelihoods. Alternative sources of energy will have to be planned, developed and implemented in order to bring an end to reliance on fossil fuels. This process must be carefully managed and should be mindful of economic and social factors.

I am also of the opinion that looking solely at renewable sources to replace fossil fuels does not take into consideration the realities of modern living. For example, electricity generated from renewable sources should ideally be stored so that it can be used in non-peak times. All of this means that there needs to be a combination of renewable sources combined with the abundance available from fossil fuels.

In conclusion, it is our duty to protect the environment. An abrupt transition from fossil fuels is neither realistic nor desirable. A more balanced approach is needed to ensure that the impact on the economy and people’s lives are considered.
