IELTS model essay topic Animal testing Sample 1:

Topic: Animal testing

Question: Some people believe that animal testing should be banned because it is cruel and unethical. Do you agree or disagree?

Answer:
I strongly agree that animal testing should be banned. It is cruel and unethical to impose experiments on innocent animals just to produce products and treatments for human beings. Animals have no choice in the matter, and they can experience pain just like any human being can. Animal rights activists have long been campaigning to end this type of testing, and I believe that it should be stopped immediately.

Furthermore, there are other viable alternatives available to testing on animals. Medical research can be conducted by using computer simulations, testing new treatments on human cells, or even using volunteers for clinical trials. These methods do not subject animals to any kind of trauma or pain and are much more ethical than using animals for testing.

In conclusion, it is clear that animal testing should be banned as it is an unnecessarily cruel practice. Humanity should be looking for more ethical alternatives to animal testing, and more effort should be put towards ending this practice.

Questions:

1. What are the benefits of animal testing?

Answer: The main benefit of animal testing is to help scientists and doctors better understand human biology and the effects of various medications and treatments. Animal testing can help researchers gain insights into physiological processes, the safety of new drugs, and how diseases develop and spread. It is also used to test the effectiveness of medical treatments and diagnostic tests. By using animals, researchers can observe how a treatment affects living organisms, providing them with valuable insights that can’t be obtained through in vitro (test-tube) experiments. Testing on animals also helps decrease the risk of testing medications and procedures on human subjects.

2. What are the drawbacks of animal testing?

Answer: Some of the drawbacks of animal testing include ethical concerns, incomplete results, and the risk of animals experiencing side effects from a test. It is not always possible to accurately simulate the effects of a treatment on animals that are substantially different from humans. Also, it can be distressful for the animals involved in the testing, as the conditions in a laboratory may not mimic those in their natural habitats. Finally, testing on animals can be expensive and time-consuming.

Question: Should animals be used for scientific and medical research?

Answer: The use of animals for scientific and medical research has been a contentious issue for many years. On one hand, some people argue that animals should not be used for any scientific and medical research because of ethical considerations, as animals are sentient creatures and have the capacity to feel so animal testing can be seen as cruel and unnecessary. On the other hand, there are those who argue that animals have an important role to play in advancing research in areas such as medical science, as they can provide invaluable data which is difficult to collect through other methods. Ultimately, each person will have their own opinion regarding the use of animals for scientific and medical research and a careful consideration of the ethical implications should be taken into account.
