IELTS model essay topic Human rights Sample 1:
Question: Human rights violations continue to occur in many countries. What do you think are the causes of this, and what can be done to address the issue?
Answer: There are many causes of human rights violations in many countries. The main cause of human rights violations is governments failing to protect the fundamental rights of their citizens. This can be due to discrimination based on race, religion, class, gender, political opinion and other factors. In many cases, governments are either not following existing laws or have no laws in place to protect people’s human rights. Other contributing factors include inadequate infrastructure and social services, a lack of access to education, limited economic opportunities, and the existence of oppressive regimes.
In order to address the issue of human rights violations, governments need to enact and enforce laws that protect the fundamental rights of people in their countries. Additionally, they should implement initiatives to raise awareness and understanding of human rights, increase access to education and social services, and provide economic opportunities to all citizens. Finally, governments need to ensure that anyone accused or convicted of a crime is afforded a fair trial and is treated humanely in accordance with international standards. These measures would help to ensure that all citizens have an equal opportunity to be protected from human rights violations.

Question:
Some people believe that human rights should not be seen as an international issue, instead each country should be responsible for tackling the problem. Do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Answer:
I strongly disagree with this opinion. Human rights are universal, and therefore they are an international issue. International law, such as the UN Declaration of Human Rights, ensure that human rights are protected across the world, giving individuals the right to life and liberty, and prohibiting violence and discrimination. The International Criminal Court is also a manifestation of this commitment to ensure that every individual is treated with decency and respect, no matter where they live.
Each country certainly has a duty and responsibility to uphold the human rights standards set forth in the international law. However, in order to promote the values of tolerance and understanding, the international community must recognize the obligation to put an end to violations whenever and wherever they take place. This includes providing support to individuals and nations when infringements occur, or when a group or country is unable to protect human rights either due to internal or external pressures.
Therefore, I do not agree with the opinion that human rights should not be viewed as an international issue. On the contrary, I believe that addressing this topic in a global framework is essential as it guarantees adequate representation, protection, and defense for every person on a world-wide scale.

Question 1: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Everyone should have the right to freedom of expression.
Answer: I agree that everyone should have the right to freedom of expression. This right allows individuals to express their opinions, beliefs, and concerns without fear of retaliation or censorship. By being able to express ourselves openly, we can foster meaningful dialogue, share information in a trusting environment, and ultimately explore and develop our ideas and perspectives. Knowing that this right is protected also helps us to feel more secure in our own freedom and encourages us to participate in more meaningful conversations. Ultimately, this right helps to protect our democracy and preserve our rights to self-expression.
