IELTS model essay topic Income redistribution Sample 1:

Question: To what extent should wealthy countries redistribute their income to the poorer nations?

Answer: Redistributing income from wealthy countries to poorer nations is a complicated, multifaceted dilemma. On the one hand, it is true that wealthy countries have a moral obligation to alleviate poverty and destitution in poorer nations, especially if those countries are geographically or politically in close proximity.

On the other hand, there is a tricky balance to maintain between providing necessary aid and assistance to poorer countries without creating a system of dependency and ongoing need for assistance. Wealthy countries should provide assistance for emergency situations and times of crisis, but should be careful not to create a system of entitlement that could be abused in the long run.

In most cases, it is better to create policies that foster economic development and growth in poorer nations, rather than simple redistributive measures. This could include direct investment in infrastructure, agriculture, medical initiatives, and education programs so that poorer countries can gradually build their own framework of self-sufficiency and economic self-reliance.

In conclusion, while wealthy countries have the moral obligation to assist in alleviating poverty and destitution in poorer nations, it should be done in an intentional, responsible and non-entitlement-based way. Redistributive measures should be used cautiously and sensibly, while systemic investments and policy initiatives should be the primary focus for liberalizing poverty in poorer countries.

The government should invest much more funds into supporting the elderly rather than into income redistribution schemes.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

I agree with the idea that the government should invest more in the elderly, rather than in income redistribution schemes. With an increasingly aging global population, societies are quickly realizing the need to support elderly individuals who may be unable to work and live with dignity. Investing in the elderly is an important way for governments to show that they value their elderly citizens and to ensure that their needs and interests are taken into consideration. Furthermore, investment into the elderly has the potential of returning economic benefits in the form of new technologies and services that come from their experiences and wisdom.

On the other hand, income redistribution schemes are also important tools for helping to bridge the growing gap between the wealthy and the poor. However, it is important to note that, although the aim of reducing inequality is a noble one, studies have shown that simply redistributing income may not actually serve to alleviate many of the underlying issues that lead to poverty, such as poor access to education and health care as well as lack of economic opportunities. Thus, while such schemes can help to reduce inequality and improve the conditions in which the poor live, they may not be providing the long-term changes that are necessary for true economic stability.

In conclusion, while income redistribution schemes are important tools for helping to bridge the economic divide, I believe that by investing more in the elderly, governments can show their commitment to an aging population and reap tangible economic benefits as well.
